I am amazed at Christians claiming and conflating the Ten Commandments with Christianity.
Let’s start with the fact that the Ten Commandments are pre-New Testament, so pre - Jesus Christ. If you are going to be Christian, you should be focusing on Christ’s commandments to (1) love your God and (2) love your neighbour (which includes people outside your tribe/race/group. See the Parable of the Good Samaritan). Those get expanded upon in the Sermon on the Mount. If you are claiming to be Christian, talk about those, not the “Ten Commandments”.
If you want to talk about the Ten Commandments, please explain why the first commandment applies to anyone other than Jews. “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” Unless you are Jewish, the Israelite tribal god of war is not your god.
People who are trying to push the “Ten Commandments” into schools and other people’s lives should demonstrate that they actually follow the commandments themselves, particularly the prohibitions against stealing, bearing false witness and coveting anything that is your neighbor’s.
